Dr.Web is a Russian internet security provider
that supplies antivirus solutions for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android. For
Windows, Dr.Web offers three solutions -Dr. Web Security Space, Dr.Web
Antivirus and Dr.Web KATANA. Dr.Web
Anti-virus for Windows provides complete basic protection for your computer
system. It also offers other security tools that are available for download
free of cost. The antivirus can be
downloaded for a trial of three months or a single month. To get a three-month
trial, the user will have to register or sign up.
The antivirus comes with three types of
different scanning options. The user can perform an express scan, full system
scan, and customized scan. The full system scan will scan the entire system
including hard disks. Express scan focuses on system pathways whereas, the
customized scan can perform scans on any chosen file or folder. Dr.Web Antivirus for
Windows has features such as heuristic and
definition-based detection. Heuristic detection means the antivirus will detect
malware based on the characteristics of a file and how it is acting. Definition
based detection is useful as every day new malware is being created. So the
definitions of malware are updated regularly. When antivirus is updated
regularly, it receives new definitions of malware and can detect the latest
malware that is present. The real-time update happens with the help of
information taken from the Dr.Web cloud.
Dr.Web
Antivirus for Windows provides extensive
control and configuration settings for the user. The settings include various
security components that can be toggled on or off as per the user’s wish. These
tools differ from protective protection, scanning settings to guard settings of Dr.Web
Security Space. There is a separate quarantine manager
that isolates and stanch the detected files. The user can choose to save, keep
or remove these files. The user can also customize the notifications they
receive from the antivirus. The antivirus does a good job of protecting against
ransomware as well. The antivirus provides a Dr.Web Rescue Pack that is
available to paid users of antivirus. This Rescue Pack helps to recover files
compromised by encryption.
Dr. Web
Antivirus for Windows does not provide a parental
control feature, where parents can monitor and control the usage of the
internet for their kids. It is only available in the Dr.Web Security Space. In
the advanced settings, the user can configure the scan settings further. The
user can choose to run a normal (fast) scan, a lower level, or an immediate emergency
scan. The user can turn off scanning for objects on LAN, or scanning Windows
for rootkits. The user can disable heuristic detection, windows script scanning
and scanning of loading programs. The antivirus lacks features such as file
shredder, email scanning and blocking access to devices.
Dr.
Web Antivirus for Windows has an interface that is
extremely easy to understand and use. It is simple and a user can effortlessly
use it. The technical support is given 24×7 in addition to a telephonic global
center to help customers.
